Beauty Point Retirement Resort was chosen by Joy Reeves and husband Noel after they sold their five-acre property in the Southern Highlands so they could be closer to their children.
“The river has all the moods of the moonlight, the sunlight and the tide coming in and out,” Mrs Reeves said.
The Reeves have a two-bedroom apartment with a balcony front and back, and water views.
Ron Ballantyne moved here with his wife 10 years ago but she suffers from Alzheimer’s disease and has gone in to a nursing home. Glad Boudet, who has lived here for 13 years, had already been with her husband for about 14 years, before selling her Riverwood home to move here.
Mrs Boudet has been the reigning shuffleboard champion, with trophies to prove it, for a long time.
There are myriad activities to be enjoyed apart from the sheer peace of contemplating the juncture of the Georges River and Salt Pan Creek.
Beauty Point Manager Lisa Papahristos said new owners renamed the resort five years ago, and 36 new apartments are due for completion in January.
Beauty Point Retirement Resort is set on 3.25 hectares, adjacent to national park land, with views across to Illawong and Alfords Point. When the new apartments are complete, it will have 160 units.
The village has recently received its accreditation.
