Serenity Found at Village

A change of management has brought a new era to the former Heritage retirement village at Padstow Heights.

Renamed Beauty Point retirement resort, the village is in the process of being refurbished to a resort standard.

While looking forward to the new era, long-term residents such as Violet Charlton, Ron Ballantyne and Glad Boudet, have seen the village as much-loved home since they gave up their family homes.

Mrs Charlton, 83, decided it was time to leave the big house at Mortdale about 11 years ago.

She looked around and chose the new development at Beauty Point. But she was not sure how her ailing husband William would like it.

“William came in here, he looked across the river at Lugarno and said ‘we had our honeymoon over there’,” Mrs Charlton says.

“And we immediately put down a deposit.”

The Charltons couldn’t have been happier. They swam every day, walked, joined in community activities and felt totally comfortable in their two bedroom unit.

When Mr Charlton died six years ago, Mrs Charlton knew that she could not have been in a better place in which to come to terms with her loss and deal with her subsequent bouts of ill health.

“The service is wonderful, nothing is too much trouble to them,” she says about the management. “I just love the place.”

Her next door neighbour Ron Ballantyne, 78, moved in four years ago with his wife Rona, giving up a home of 55 years at Earlwood.

“We looked at many other facilities and decided this was the best,” Mr Ballantyne says.

“I can’t speak highly enough of what I am getting.”

Their friend Glad Boudet, 85, and a resident of nine years, is just as happy.

There comes a time when you need the security, care and the type of facilities retirement facilities have to offer, according to experts.
The 13-year-old development was bought by a local company, Dennison Investments, about a year ago with the idea of giving people over 55 a greater lifestyle choice.

Nestled on 3.25 hectares in the Georges River National Park, Beauty Point offers 124 self-care units with the highest standards of security and care to ensure that the retirement years are pleasant and carefree.

Features include stunning water and bush views, private entries, private sun terraces, spacious rooms, high quality fittings and inclusions, waist-high ovens, reverse-cycle airconditioning, built-in wardrobes and floor to ceiling windows and blinds.

Prices start at about $110,000 for a one-bedroom unit. Three-bedroom units start at $270,000.
